Due to severe allergies, our office is scent-free. Please do not enter our office wearing scented products such as perfume, body lotion, cologne, aftershave, hair spray, etc. If a product scent is present, you may be asked to come back at another time.
 

The Prince Edward Island Human Rights Commission (PEIHRC) promotes and protects human rights in PEI. We believe PEI should be a place where people with diverse identities and backgrounds are respected, included, and safe. The Commission enforces PEI human rights laws, provides education, and advises government.

PEIHRC is an independent agency that is responsible for administering and enforcing the Prince Edward Island Human Rights Act. The Act prohibits unequal and prejudicial treatment in certain areas on the basis of certain personal characteristics, also known as prohibited grounds of discrimination.

A team of dedicated staff members are responsible for the daily operations of the Commission including: education, investigation, complaint resolution, and advising government.

Part-time Commissioners are appointed by members of the Standing Committee on Health and Social Development of the Legislative Assembly of PEI. Commissioners oversee the operations of the Commission and conduct panel hearings when required.

The Commission reports annually to the Legislature through the Minister of Justice and Public Safety.
