Carolyn Francis was appointed to the Commission on July 9, 2018. She holds a B Sc. in Agriculture, a diploma in Education from MacDonald College of McGill University, and a Masters in School Administration from the University of Moncton. In 2002, Commissioner Francis retired after 33 years as a teacher and school administrator in Quebec, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Since 2003, Commissioner Francis has been on staff in the Faculty of Education at UPEI and is currently the coordinator of the Bachelor of Education program.
Commissioner Francis has spent a number of years as a volunteer on international projects through the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (Uganda), and Farmers Helping Farmers (Kenya). She has been involved with her local church and numerous community organizations including Camp Abegweit and the Kensington Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (KARSI).
Commissioner Francis is a mother, step-mother, and was a foster parent for more than 10 years to five adolescents and has hosted seven international exchange students.
Commissioner Francis has been recognized for her work by receiving the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, United Church National Camping Award, UPEI Exemplary Service Award, and a lifetime membership to Farmers Helping Farmers.
Assisting others in reaching their personal potential has always been a passion for Commissioner Francis.
