If a complaint has been filed against you, you may contact Lorraine Buell, Mediator/Intake Officer at the Commission to discuss the next steps. The Commission does not represent either side in a complaint and can provide direction to both parties to help them deal with complaints. The Mediator/Intake Officer can also discuss early settlement processes.
If settlement discussions are not taking place, you have 30 calendar days to file a written response with the Commission.
In your response, you should address the allegations set out in the complaint. It is helpful if you provide details like dates, places, and the full names of anyone involved. Like the complaint form, the response form also asks the Respondent to suggest how the complaint could best be resolved. The Respondent must sign and date the response form, and attach any documents that they feel are relevant to responding to the complaint.
When the Commission receives the response, a copy will be sent to the Complainant. The Complainant will then have 30 days to submit comments in reply to the response.
