Kathleen Vent joined the PEIHRC as a Commissioner in December of 2022. Kathleen obtained her B.A. in English Literature from UPEI and her law degree from UNB. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1986 and to the PEI Bar in 1999. The first 8 years of her career were spent practicing Immigration Law in Mississauga and Toronto, mostly working with refugee status claimants. This was followed by a few years as a private practitioner in Peterborough, Ontario.
Kathleen then worked as the Legislative Specialist with the PEI Department of Health and Social Services from 2000-2008. From 2008 until her retirement in December 2022, Kathleen worked with the Legal Services Unit of the Veterans Review and Appeal Board Canada, where she was Director from 2015 until her retirement.
Kathleen enjoys spending leisure time with her family and pets, singing, playing guitar, playing the fiddle with the Queens County Fiddlers, as well as travelling and spending time at the beach. Kathleen loves the Island, is passionate about human rights, and looks forward to working with the Commission.
